We are happy to kick off the year once again at Eurosonic where we have some interesting activities planned. You can meet us in Groningen from Wednesday, the 16th of January to Friday, the 18th of January 2019 after our panel sessions or at the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards ceremony. We are excited to meet new faces from the European live music scene and to connect with our members who are attending the festival.

Two conferences with Live DMA

1 |On Thursday, 17th of January – 12:00 – 13:00, we present together with Liveurope the panel Boosting New European Talent on Live Music Scenes by 2021

A good infrastructure in venues and stages where upcoming artists can perform play a crucial role in talent development and a healthy music industry. In an ideal world all venues would work together on the circulation of emerging European acts.

Liveurope proved a solid mechanism to increase the circulation of emerging European artists supported with EU funding. The question for the future now is: how to increase that support for more artists and by including more venues? Especially at a time when the discussions on a dedicated European policy for music are moving forward, it is time think a new artist mobility schemes on large scales. To boost the international careers of emerging European artists by facilitating touring opportunities in iconic venues all over the continent.

What would be necessary to create such an exchange programme for European venues?

2 | On Friday, the 18th of January, Live DMA coordinator Audrey Guerre will be speaking on the Music Moves Europe panel How to grasp market trends in Europe’s music sector?

The European music sector is a strong and diverse ecosystem of creators, industry operators, innovators, not-for-profit organisations and of course millions of fans. The way we produce, exchange and listen to music has changed radically in the past two decades and will continue to evolve at a fast pace. In Europe, we lack sound and comparable information about these developments and trends. The EU institutions are addressing this challenge in the context of “Music Moves Europe”, and so do a variety of European countries on their own territories recently. This panel will discuss what is needed to help understand and anticipate the trends of the European music sector in the future. How can we better analyse and measure the cross-border flows of music? How can we better anticipate and embrace innovation, new trends and market shifts, at national and European levels? Following an introduction by the European Commission, our panelists will discuss these ideas, the latest developments on the subject, and answer the audience’s questions.

On the panel:

Music Moves Europe Talent Awards

As part of the advisory board of the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards, we will attend the awards’ ceremony on Wednesday night.
The award celebrates the emerging artists who represent the European sound of today and tomorrow. Outstanding artists will receive a Music Moves Europe Talent Award in recognition of their international success, as well as being rewarded with a performance at ESNS, a training programme and financial support for touring and promotion.
