AUTHOR RIGHTS SOCIETIES IN EUROPE

THE LINK BETWEEN ARTISTS AND VENUES

Authors Rights Societies or Copyrights Societies, are the link between creators (e.g. artists) and the services and platforms (e.g. venues, clubs and festivals) who spread their work.

Creators and other rightsholders of artistic works entrust Author Rights Societies to grant licences on their behalf. As such, Author Rights Societies carry out the cross-border distribution of royalties for millions of creators and billions of individual usages. They ensure the remuneration of artists and creators.

ENSURE THE FAIR REMUNERATION OF ARTISTS

The money generated by the use of artist’s work, be it at a nightclub or on the internet, is supposed to be paid back proportionally to the rightsholder. Author Rights Societies are free to set their own tariffs in granting licences, provided that those tariffs are based on objective and non-discriminatory criteria.

Find below a chart summarizing relevant Author Rights Societies for live music venues in each country of the Live DMA network, with links to the webpages where you can find the tariffs in place.
