Michael Spanu is a French researcher in popular music studies. He holds a PhD in Sociology (University of Lorraine, France) and wrote his thesis on language diversity in French popular music. His research also falls within the scope of globalization, media and cultural diversity. He is a member of the editorial board of Volume! the French Journal of Popular Music Studies. He edited two special issues of Volume!, one on immigration in French music, and another one on music videos. He is also a member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM).
